There is a prefectural central purification center in Shimono, Tochigi Prefecture. Shimotsuke has 24119 households and a population of 60081. The prefectural central purification center extracts hydrogen from methane gas generated in the process of treating sewage sludge and uses it for power generation.
Japan's population is approximately 124.88 million, which is about 2,100 times the population of Shimotsuke City, Tochigi Prefecture, and this means that 5.2 billion kWh of electricity can be generated annually.
By collecting fallen leaves from roadside trees and putting them into digestion tanks, the amount of methane produced can be increased.
Methane can be directly decomposed into solid carbon using the Turquoise hydrogen production unit, which does not emit carbon dioxide.
The solid carbon produced is high-value-added solid carbon such as graphite and carbon nanofiber, which can be used in a wide range of applications, including lithium-ion batteries and tires.
The hydrogen produced by the Turquoise hydrogen production plant will be used to generate electricity in a hybrid system that combines a solid oxide fuel cell and a waste heat recovery steam turbine.Turquoise Hydrogen production requires heat of 900°C.It uses the high temperature operating heat of solid oxide fuel cells.
